Healthcare professionals looking to specialise in diabetes care have been invited to join a webinar taking place this month.
Leicester Diabetes Centre (LDC) will provide an opportunity to learn about a part-time post graduate training programme dedicated to managing the condition during a virtual event on Tuesday, August 22, from 7pm to 8pm.
The webinar will provide the opportunity to showcase LDC’s Diabetes MSc, PGDip, PGCert and CPD modules, by distance learning and include information and advice from graduates and current students about how they managed the balance of studying, work and life during their time on the course.
Based at the heart of NHS clinical services, the programme draws on the specialist knowledge of the experienced and high-profile staff at the world-renowned LDC and the University of Leicester.
During the free-to-attend webinar, Janet Jarvis, Co-Course Director, will interview current and former students about how the course has helped them specialise in diabetes care and how they managed their time during their studies.
Janet said: “We are thrilled to invite healthcare professionals to join us for an enlightening webinar where we will provide information about our exceptional ‘Diabetes MSc, PGDip PGCert, by distance learning’ course and talk to graduates and current students about the art of balancing studying, working and life.

She added: “The course’s part-time, distance learning structure gives you the flexibility to fit study around your existing work commitments, meaning you can enhance your career prospects without having to leave employment.

Chantaye Lea Johnson, Registered Dietitian and current student on the course who will be speaking during the webinar, said: “When I started this programme, I thought I knew a lot about diabetes, but as I journeyed through this strategically planned course, I realised differently. I found my voice in the field of diabetes.
“My confidence speaking on countless diabetes topics has surpassed my personal expectations. I have a better understanding of healthcare professionals’ perspectives.”

The ‘Diabetes MSc, PGDip, PGCert, by distance learning’ course combines the most topical thinking around clinical care and research with practical examples of how novel research and evidence-based diabetes care can be applied in real life clinical settings.
The ongoing research published by LDC means that the curriculum and all course materials are relevant and based on the latest insights and understanding.
Students on the course will also be taught by staff who are internationally recognised as pioneers in the field, including LDC Co-Directors Professor Melanie Davies CBE and Professor Kamlesh Khunti CBE.
LDC is answering the global challenge of type 2 diabetes and long-term conditions through world-leading research, education and innovation.
Based at Leicester General Hospital, the 3,000m2 centre is a unique collaboration between the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.
Founded in 2012, the centre is home to the award-winning DESMOND and EDEN programmes; that ensure the findings of LDC’s innovative research continues to achieve impact beyond the research setting.
