A living snow globe featuring the Snow Queen will be part of the weekend parade
Warrington Business Improvement District (BID) is proud to announce the return of an extraordinary Christmas celebration that is set to welcome hundreds of people to the town centre.
Warrington’s Weekend Wonderland, in collaboration with Warrington Borough Council and Culture Warrington, will bring together Independent Street Markets, events and colourful performances as part of a Christmas cracker of festivities.
Taking place on the weekend of November 25th from 10am to 9pm and on the 26th from 11am to 9pm, the event promises to be a festive extravaganza filled with local art, crafts, food, and entertainment.
The highlight of the weekend will be the bustling Christmas market featuring over 70 stalls, which will be set up along Bridge Street, Marketgate, Buttermarket Street, and the Time Square Quarter. Local artisans and makers will offer a diverse array of goods, including freshly baked treats, delicious street food, award-winning pies, artisan gin, handcrafted jewellery and much more.
Amy Dawber, Warrington BID Manager, said: “Christmas is nearly here and it’s fantastic to kickstart the festivities with our Weekend Wonderland. This unique shopping experience will showcase the incredible talent of our local artists and makers while providing a delightful day out for the whole family.
“In addition to the market, the weekend promises a wealth of entertainment for all ages. From a funfair with thrilling rides, to community and school choir performances at Golden Square’s Old Market Place, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
Radio Warrington will be broadcasting live Christmas music throughout the day, leading up to the parade at 5pm.
Another highlight of the weekend is the return of ‘At No.25 Christmas Installation’ at Queens Gardens. This Narnia-themed winter wonderland, created by local artists Erica Wilkinson and Lauren Muir, with support from Warrington and Vale Royal College students, will feature a living snow globe and a mystical Snow Queen, enchanting visitors with music, lights, and a sprinkle of snow.
Children can participate in free workshops at New Art Spaces to create Christmas crafts for the town centre parade at 5pm on Saturday. Father Christmas will also be in town with his sleigh, and street entertainers, including Santa’s Elves and the Grinch, which will add to the festive atmosphere.
The Christmas Parade will start on Bridge Street, at the back of Warrington Market, with Katumba drummers leading the way down Rylands Street to the Town Hall, where everyone will assemble on the front lawn for the projection switch on, including Father Christmas, his elves, and the Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Steve Wright.
Amy added: “The grand finale of the weekend is the magnificent after-dark light and sound show projected onto the town hall building, telling a festive story that celebrates Christmas and New Year. The festive show projection will start at 5.15pm, and last 15 minutes on a rolling basis until 9pm, so that passers-by who arrive near the end won’t need to wait long to see it start again.
