Thorlux shines a light on hospice fundraiser

L-R: Sara Matthews, St Richard’s Hospice with Craig Muncaster and Kate Thorpe of Thorlux

A Worcestershire lighting company is the latest local business to help a hospice art trail shine in summer 2024.

Thorlux Lighting – a division of FW Thorpe Plc – which designs, manufactures and supplies professional lighting systems from its Redditch base, is to sponsor an adult and baby penguin for the great Waddle of Worcester.

One of 80 penguins, large and small, the fibreglass sculptures will be displayed in Worcester for eight weeks, forming a parade through city streets, shopping areas and public spaces.

The art trail will run from Monday 22 July to Sunday 15 September, culminating in an auction where each large sculpture will be sold to raise funds for the free care that St Richard’s Hospice provides to patients and their loved ones locally.  The Thorlux penguin chick will be designed and decorated by local school children before returning to them at the end of the trail as a lasting memory of the project.

Craig Muncaster, Joint Chief Executive, Group Financial Director of FW Thorpe Plc, said: “We loved being involved in the elephant trail last time, supporting a local charity whose care strikes a chord with many of us in the Thorlux team.”

“We’re really delighted to be sponsoring a baby penguin too this time which means a local school will get chance to take part and see their artwork proudly paraded in Worcester.”

Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager at St Richard’s, said: “It’s wonderful to welcome our friends at Thorlux to waddle with us again in 2024.

“Last time the team chose the amazing ‘Elephant Tree’ design by local artist Marnie Maurri, so we know they have an eye for something really special. We can’t wait to see which penguin design they bring to life next summer.”

The great Waddle of Worcester is supported by Presenting Partners; Crowngate, DRPG, Worcester City Council and Worcestershire Ambassadors, Community and Education Partner; Worcester BID and Media Partners; the Worcester News and BBC Hereford & Worcester.

A couple of large penguins are still available for sponsorship. To get involved call Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager, on 01905 763963, or email [email protected].
