The Chester Business Club puts best foot forward as part of charity push

Legendary annual walk back on September 17.

The Chester Business Club is putting its best foot forward – as part of its continuing crusade to raise funds for charitable community causes.

CBC members, their family, friends, supporters, and even their pet dogs, will be coming together to take part in a six-mile walk on September 17.

The Annual Charity Walk, which is FREE to register for, was rained off last year.

But the club’s new chair, Jan Chillery, said it was returning this month, and said it promises to be bigger and better than ever.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to the walk. I’ll be raising funds for Clwyd Special Riding Centre, whilst my 15-year-old daughter Bessie is fundraising for the Cheshire Horse Sanctuary.  I’m so proud of the Chester Business Club for its Annual Charity Walk.  It’s free and open to everyone, young, old and even four legged. And it’s not just for club members. Its aim is to help our community raise money for charity – and have fun doing it. The CBC is an inclusive Club, welcoming membership applications from business decision-makers that share our passion for Chester and “making a difference.”

Organisation for this year’s walk has been skilfully coordinated by long standing CBC member Fraser Crewe.

He said: “It’s an historic event that has been running since 1989. What makes it extra special is that some of the charities who benefit from the money raised take part in the walk as well. To see the smiles on the faces of all of those taking part is always very rewarding.”

The walk will start at 11am, with registration from 10.15am.

Starting and finishing at Chester Racecourse, it’s a six-mile gentle walk along level ground and will include time for the Club’s legendary refreshments en-route – including stops for Mars Bars, orange juice, bacon / vegan butties and coffee.

At the finish walkers can even toast their success with a Gin & Tonic – or a soft drink.

To add to the fun on the day, there will be face painters for children. There will also be prizes for the best behaved dog.

All walkers raising £100 or more will be entered into a Prize Draw with fine prizes to be won.  There will also be a special prize for the individual raising the most money

A string of local businesses have generously stepped forward to sponsor the event, including Pellitec Ltd, Russell & Russell, Haines Watts,  DropJaw Ventures.

The walk’s main sponsor, Illingworth Seddon, said: “We are proud to support the CBC Charity Walk and we are thoroughly looking forward to a stroll with many other local businesses and residents. Our team will be out in force for the walk, and hope to enjoy a great day out with you all!’

The CBC expects to raise significant funds to help support organisations in the region.

Those who have benefited in toast include, the  Cheshire Autism Practical Support (ChAPS). A spokesperson said: “Our charity raised over £1,600 from the last Charity Walk and the parents who participated had a great time chatting to each other. This is a really great fun activity that benefits walkers and charities for the funding it raises.  I would recommend it to any organisation.”

Another beneficiary, the Countess of Chester’s Hospital Blue-Sky Balcony Appeal, added: said: “It is a lovely level walk along the River and is a good way to get the children out, the dogs walked and the heart pumping!”

Ms Chillery added: “We can provide all walkers with sponsorship forms specific to their chosen charity, with GiftAid facility, or walkers can use Justgiving or similar websites. We warmly invite your readers to register and raise money for their chosen good causes.”
