An award-winning golf and leisure complex, which also provides nursery care, is the latest county business to adopt a penguin.

Droitwich-based Gaudet Luce Golf Club and Phoenix Childcare are teaming up to sponsor the great Waddle of Worcester.

A six-mile sculpture trail that will bring thousands to the city in summer 2024, 40 of 80 penguins featured will later be sold at auction to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

Alec Fernihough, Director Gaudet Luce Golf Club, said: “We’ve loved Worcester’s past art trails, particularly how they bring people of all ages together.  That cross-generational appeal strikes a chord with us as a destination that attracts golfers looking for a superb experience on the green, as well as families looking for footgolf, disc golf or nurturing care for young children.

“We’re really excited to be sponsoring a penguin and the children in our nursery can’t wait to cuddle up to the happy huddle out on the trail.”

The great Waddle of Worcester is a Wild in Art event brought to the city by St Richard’s in its fortieth year. The arts event follows two previous trails supporting its care for patients with a serious progressive illness and their families.

Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “It’s really fantastic to welcome Gaudet Luce and Phoenix Childcare to waddle with us as brand-new sponsors in 2024.

“Each sponsor has the honour of choosing the penguin suit their sculpture wears.  We’re excited to see what the teams choose for their ‘birdie’!”
