Becky Brown

Becky is the Founder of SimpliciB, which delivers food education workshops.

She passionate about empowering people to make better food choices to improve health, both physically and mentally.

  1. Tell us a little bit about your business…

I deliver food workshops to employees, our younger generation and charities. I am driven to help people have nice food regardless of time, skill or budget (whilst reducing edible food waste).

My most popular workshop is Food and Mood that explores the link between food and eating habits and how that can have a huge impact on how we feel, both positively and negatively.

I also deliver a cost-of-living crisis food workshop, fuss free lunches, war on waste and ultra process me.

  1. How did you get into the industry?

I honestly started my business by accident back in 2020. It was lockdown and when people were panic buying food I started to share really simple meals that were easy to make in little time and only required a handful of ingredients. From the comments on my social media, it was then I realised that as consumers we have a real lack of awareness when it comes to food.

  1. What are the biggest opportunities and challenges in your industry?

My business is truly unique in the sense that my workshops challenge peoples thinking when it comes to food which empowers then to make small but very impactful changes. The biggest opportunities for my business is to truly change peoples life’s in the most incredible way. I don’t feel that I am facing any challenges at the moment. Well-being is so important, now more than ever and my workshops help with peoples well-being.

  1. How would you describe your leadership style?

I don’t have any employees but I would like to think that my leadership style is to lead by example. I like to help people nourish and shine in their own right.

5. What are the most crucial elements to your business running smoothly and being successful?

Without a shadow of a doubt it’s my knowledge of the content and materials I deliver. I am incredibly passionate about my business and that passion has to show when I deliver workshops in order to motivate people to make better food choices.

6. How has the past 12 months been for you?

Even though I started my business over 3 years ago, I would say it’s the last 12/18 months that my business has seen it’s best success. I have had to opportunity to work with some incredible companies and people. At the beginning of this year, I was awarded Most Dedicated Food Consultant 2024 – Derbyshire by Business Elite Awards as well as a Global Recognition Award.

7. What will the next 12 months look like for your business?

I have huge plans for this year. I have been having conversations with some huge corporations. Last year my workshops were delivered to employees only but this year I will be working with some charities delivering various food workshops to their vulnerable people. I have just been booked to deliver a workshop to our Derbyshire Carers. I am also hoping to deliver workshops to our NHS, Police Force, Ambulance Service, Fire Service and Prison Staff.

8. What are the highlights of your career so far?

There have been so many. The one thing that will stay with me forever is when I delivered a workshop to a company and a person told me that he was drinking 6/7 cans of energy drinks per day. I tried my hardest to convince this person by highlighting the harm they cause but they were adamant that he would never give up. The next time I saw this person, I begged them to just change 1 drink a week with water. The next time I saw them, they had completely gave up the energy drinks. Whilst this person did all the hard work, things like this motivate me everyday.

9. What’s the biggest business mistake that you’ve learnt from?

The biggest business mistake I have learnt from is my naivety. I just assumed that once I started my business it would be an instant success. The biggest personal mistake I realised towards the end of last year was to not stop, give myself a pat on the back and acknowledge the successes.

10. What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve been given?

You have to love what you do, because it’s hard work both physically and mentally and you have to be passionate to keep going.

Spread the good news!
