Space Park Leicester, in collaboration with the National Centre for Earth Observation (NCEO), is delighted to invite the public to a night of community engagement and celebration as part of a series of events to mark the COP28 Climate Summit (30 Nov – 12 Dec).
Uniting for a night of education and inspiration to highlight the importance of global climate action, members of the public are invited to embark on an unforgettable journey into the world of climate and space, delving into innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
This unique event will take place at the University of Leicester’s renowned Space Park Leicester on Wednesday December 6 from 4:30pm to 8pm and promises to be a memorable evening for people of all ages.
Alex Wheldon, Head of Strategic Communications and Marketing, at Space Park Leicester, said: “COP28 at Space Park is a part of a series of collaborative community engagement activities taking place right here in Leicester between 30 November – 12 December aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of climate change and its impact on our planet.
“Whether you’re a family, school group, climate enthusiast, or a professional, this event will offer an opportunity to engage with climate and space experts, and gain insights into the intersection of space technology and climate action.”
The evening also offers visitors the opportunity to admire the magnificent 3-metre globe loaned to Space Park Leicester by one of the world’s leading IT and business consulting firms, CGI. This breath-taking globe created by celebrated artist Luke Jerram was previously showcased by CGI at COP27 in Egypt and captures the Earth’s beauty, serving as a symbol of Space Park Leicester and CGI’s dedication to sustainability. It underscores the pivotal role that space technology plays in combating climate change.
The Community Opening Evening will take place in the Space Park atrium alongside CGI’s globe and will feature an array of stands, displays, and activities presented by the University and its partners.

- 16:30 – Doors open
- 16:45 – Michelle Reader unveils her latest sustainable artwork
- 17:00 – Sustainable ideas to save the planet: Speakers have 5 minutes to pitch an exciting and interesting sustainable idea. You get to choose your favourite!
- 18:00 – Panel Discussion – COP28: Climate Technologies and Innovation: This insightful panel will discuss climate technologies and innovative solutions to address climate change.
- 19:15 – Keynote speech: Our keynote speaker will shed light on how earth observation technology is instrumental in helping our planet.
- 20:00 – Doors close
