Running a marathon to raise funds for KEMP Hospice

Nicki Fisher

Local runner Nicki Fisher is taking on the mighty London Marathon this month (April), raising funds for Wyre Forest charity KEMP Hospice. After months of tough preparation and training, Nicki is getting ready to face the challenge in the capital on Sunday 21st April and has so far raised over £1,200 for the hospice.

After successfully being offered a ballot place at this years TCS London Marathon, Nicki chose to support KEMP Hospice with her fundraising efforts. Nicki said, “Running the London Marathon is a huge opportunity for me, and I am absolutely thrilled to have been given a ballot place. I’m running in memory of some wonderful friends who I had the absolute pleasure of knowing but were sadly taken away from us too soon. Their families were supported by KEMP, as are so many others in the area so I’m grateful to everyone who has donated!”.

After starting her full training for the marathon in January, Nicki has faced several challenges on her road to the run as she explains, “Training has been a struggle to be honest. I had a chest infection at the start and have since had a fall whilst running, pulling a muscle in my back. My training plan was altered to concentrate on rehab exercises and the long runs, to try and limit the amount I aggravate my injury. I’m back on track with my training now having run 20 miles on the weekend, but it’s inevitable that’s it’s going to hurt. No matter what though, I’m determined to get round, even if I have to crawl!”

Jayne Sargeant, Head of Fundraising & Communications said “We are so grateful to Nicki for choosing to run for KEMP Hospice. The London Marathon is such a big challenge, not just on the day, but the dedication it takes to train, particularly during the Winter months. Having been battling illness and injury only makes Nicki’s commitment to raising funds for KEMP Hospice all the more inspiring”.

As the big day draws closer, Nicki has been given her race number of 17553 and her start time of 10:45am “It’s getting very real now, but I’m determined to dig deep, keep on going and finish the full 26.2 miles in honour of my friends and all those supported by KEMP Hospice.”
