Reflections on a decade with Wonderworld Group

A decade ago, when we established WonderWorld Soft Play, our enterprise was limited to a solitary location. Today, we’ve extended our reach to encompass 12 establishments and a variety of brands spread across multiple cities, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, East Kilbride, Falkirk, Kirkcaldy, Perth, and London.

The journey to this expansion was not without its trials and tribulations, but it stands as a testament to the resilience of our business and our unwavering dedication to fundamental principles.

Having joined the company just over two years ago, I’d like to share some valuable insights that have propelled us to become Scotland’s largest soft play group and operators of inflatable and trampoline parks under our AirThrill brand.

Integrity serves as the bedrock of any prosperous business, with trust being paramount. Right from the outset, our team cultivated a culture of candour, transparency, and accountability within the organisation. This culture has fostered trust among our colleagues and our customers. By adhering to our core values, we have built a solid foundation that underpins our success.

In the realms of commerce, relationships are of paramount importance. We have discovered that by setting clear boundaries and emphasising open communication, we can nurture our business connections. This approach has enabled us to construct a resolute, unified team devoted to our common objectives.

We’ve come to appreciate the necessity of holding our long-term vision in sight, whilst being agile enough to pivot when required to deal with ever changing industry and external dynamics. This also means paying meticulous attention to even the minutest details to ensure an exceptional customer experience. This approach ensures that we confront immediate challenges head-on, while remaining aligned with our overarching aims. It’s a delicate equilibrium, but one that has propelled our growth.

In today’s ever evolving and challenging business landscape, complacency is a business’s most formidable adversary. To flourish in the current competitive environment, a commitment to continual learning and self-improvement is non-negotiable. We are dedicated to keeping abreast of industry trends, fostering personal and professional growth and this commitment has not only kept us relevant, but has also ignited innovation and creativity within our organisation.

Flexibility is a pivotal element in ensuring the enduring success of any enterprise. Over the past decade, we’ve encountered numerous unforeseen challenges, ranging from economic downturns to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our capacity to innovate and adapt has been instrumental in our survival. By embracing change and adapting swiftly, we’ve not only weathered storms but have also identified fresh opportunities, culminating in the expansion of our brand presence across various locations in Scotland and our inaugural site in London and as we look ahead to 2024, we envisage further expansion in England to truly cement ourselves as a national brand.

By adhering to the principles of integrity, valuing relationships, staying focused on the grand vision, constantly learning, and championing innovation, we firmly believe that any enterprise can not only endure, but also flourish in the ever-changing entrepreneurial landscape.
