Prestigious awards ceremony recognises top businesses in Wellingborough and East Northants

2023 Wellingborough & East Northants Chamber of Commerce Business Award Winners

The pinnacle of business excellence in Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire has been celebrated at the Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2023.

Inspiring businesses were presented with their accolades on Wednesday (December 6) during a breakfast ceremony held at Harrowden Hall – home of Wellingborough Golf Club in Great Harrowden.

The five titles up for grabs this year were the Services Business of the Year, Retail Business of the Year, Industry Award, Community Award and Excellence Award.

The annual celebration of commercial success is a testament to the vibrant business community in the borough. Open to all businesses, irrespective of Chamber membership, the awards spotlight excellence and innovation, recognising those who have made strides in business while contributing significantly to the prosperity of the local area.

Scooping the title of Services Business of the Year, Georgina Stewart, founder of The Nutrient Gap Ltd, said: “I am absolutely overjoyed and honoured to be recognised with this award. It reinforces our commitment to excellence, customer satisfaction and making a positive impact with our services.”

The food consultancy company helps food brands easily navigate the complex world of product information and compliance.

For the second year running, the Retail Business of the Year Award was presented to Wine Chateau Ltd, the first UK importer and supplier of Moldovan wines, based on Silver Street in Wellingborough.

Managing Director, Cristina Paunoiu, said: “Being a small family business, winning this award increases our credibility to customers for the quality service and products we offer, especially with this being the second year in a row for us!

“This recognition is the perfect reward for our dedication to enriching wine experiences and the incredible support from our loyal customers. It motivates us to continue pushing boundaries, setting new standards and elevating our business to greater heights.”

A family-owned timber engineering business based in the Midlands for over 100 years, Scotts of Thrapston, picked up the Industry Award.

James Scott, of Scotts of Thrapston, said: “Receiving the Industry Award is an immense source of pride for us. It is a celebration of the generations of hard work, dedication and values that define our company.

“This award symbolises not only our commitment to excellence in the industry but also the strong foundation of family values that have been integral to our success.”

The Community Award was given to the small and independent Northamptonshire Branch of the RSPCA, which saves animals that have been neglected, mistreated or subjected to cruelty.

Richard Burns, from the RSPCA Northamptonshire Branch, said: “This award will hold a special place in our hearts. It not only shines a light on our mission of the past six decades, but also strengthens our resolve to continue championing the rights and welfare of pets and rescues alike for many more years to come.”

Nene Valley Crematorium received this year’s Excellence Award for supporting bereaved customer’s wishes for their loved ones, initiating their innovative recycling of metals scheme and for generously sharing their profits amongst selected charities.

Richard Porter, from Nene Valley Crematorium, said: “Winning the Excellence Award is such an honour. We are unbelievably proud of our team that made this possible. The award celebrates our commitment to providing compassionate and personalised services to bereaved families and our dedication to innovation, sustainability and community support.”

This year’s Business Awards featured a captivating keynote address from Simon Cooper, Director of Weatherbys GSB. Simon delivered a compelling presentation on the rich history and enduring success of Weatherbys titled ‘250 Years of a Local Family Firm’.
