Penguin p-p-p-picks up a penguin!

Chris Hopkinson of Penguin Office Supplies with Spirit the penguin

A Worcestershire business which named itself after the penguin is to pick up its very own penguin in summer 2024!

Founded in 2015, Bromsgrove-based Penguin Office Supplies Ltd was named to reflect the flightless birds’ loyalty, support, unity, and dedication. Now the company will sponsor a penguin sculpture duringan eight-week art trail being brought to Worcester by St Richard’s Hospice.

Penguin’s penguin sculpture will be brought to life by an artist’s design and auctioned at the end of the project to raise vital funds for the free, ongoing care and support offered by St Richard’s to people with a serious progressive illness and their loved ones.

Chris Hopkinson, Founder of Penguin Office Supplies, said: “When it came to setting up the business, I wanted a name which meant something and ‘penguin’ is a family nickname given to my wife.  While it’s a sentimental choice, penguins have some fantastic qualities which align with how I like to support my customers.

“When I heard we had eighty penguins coming to Worcestershire next summer I knew I had to dive in and sponsor one of the happy huddle. In doing so, it’s a brrr-illiant way to support the care St Richard’s provides to patients and families all over the county.”

The trail begins on Monday, 22 July and runs for eight weeks until Sunday, 15 September 2024. Forty large and forty small fibreglass penguin sculptures will bring a splash of colour to Worcester’s streets and public spaces to form an interactive art trail.

Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “You really can’t find a more perfect fit than Penguin sponsoring a penguin!

“For us, it’s fantastic to find a fellow fan of these beautiful creatures. Like Chris, we chose penguins to represent us because they’re so loveable and loyal. When the cold winds blow they know they’re better together; huddling close to look after their neighbour. In our fortieth year caring for patients and loved ones nothing captures the spirit of St Richard’s better.”
