New partnership sees Bishop & Sewell providing legal advice to young professional footballers

London law firm Bishop & Sewell LLP has announced a partnership with PPW Workshops to provide specialist legal advice to help young professional football players plan for their future.

The new partnership sees Bishop & Sewell Partner David Little, a specialist in commercial and sports law, visit professional football clubs to deliver legal advice at PPW Workshops. The legal aspect of the workshops focuses on a wide range of topics relevant to young professional players, including contract negotiations, wealth management, property investments, commercial investments, Wills and pre-nuptial agreements, with the aim helping them make more informed decisions when planning their professional and personal lives.

David said: “The PPW Workshops are aimed at young footballers who are just starting out in their professional careers and may not be aware of their rights, options and responsibilities. The workshops are delivered in an informal, interactive style with plenty of opportunity for questions, and we’ve also set up a WhatsApp service to answer any questions the young professionals may have.

“Our goal is to make the advice accessible and understandable and provide the right guidance from the outset, to help young professional footballers to make informed choices and avoid mistakes that could prove costly to their prospects.”

During the workshops players also receive advice from financial planning experts Fortis Private Wealth management and insurance from All Sports Insurance.

Amer Nazir, Co-Founder of Fortis Private Wealth, said: “It is a great pleasure to be a part of The Professional Players Workshop and engage with young and talented footballers at the start of their careers.

“Our aim is to set clear and understandable financial goals, to help these young players navigate the complex world of financial planning. The ultimate aim is to make smart money choices today to secure financial freedom and longevity in retirement at an early age.”

The PPW Workshops initiative was launched by Peter Etherington, father of ex Spurs, West Ham and Stoke player Matt Etherington.

Peter Etherington said: “Our workshops are unique, and we have been in this marketplace for 12 years.  We choose specialists in various fields, including wealth, law and insurance, and so we are delighted to be working with David and the team at Bishop & Sewell in relation to Sports Law.  David is an expert in this sector and is providing invaluable guidance to these Professional Players as they embark on their careers.”
