New hospice shop set to open

Esther Phillips, Shop Manager – Outside the hospice’s new store in Barnards Green

Shoppers will be able to browse a new hospice store in Barnards Green, Malvern, from next weekend.

The new St Richard’s Hospice shop at 110 to 112 Barnards Green Road will open to the public on Saturday, December 2 at 10am.

The move follows the success of the hospice’s current store in the town, which is based in Court Road.

Cutting the ribbon to officially open the shop will be Ian Humphries, a Worcestershire-based antiques dealer who features on BBC1’s The Bidding Room and The Vintage French Farmhouse.

Ian, who owns Manormonkeys Antiques in Radford, said: “As a regular customer in the hospice’s Barnards Green shop, I was pleased to hear they are expanding into a new location.

“I’ve seen how much care and dedication the team put in to running the current shop, so I’m certain they will make this next venture a success for the hospice too!”

The current shop closes on Friday, December 1, and the shop team hopes to see its regular customers – and lots of new faces – at their new location in the town.

Esther Phillips, who manages the hospice’s Barnards Green shop, said: “We can’t wait to launch our new shop to customers, and are delighted Ian will officially open it for us!

“We have been working hard to prepare a fantastic shopping experience for our customers, and hope they enjoy visiting us in our new and improved store.

“I would like to thank our volunteer team and generous donors, whose quality, preloved goods will be on sale in the shop to raise funds for our hospice care.”

The new shop will stock a range of preloved clothing, homeware, accessories, books and giftware.

It will open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and on Sundays 10.30am to 4.30pm.

More volunteer support is needed to help run the shop, with tasks including customer service, preparing stock for sale, and visual merchandising.

Anyone interested in volunteering at the Barnards Green shop can pop-in to speak with the manager, Esther, or apply online www.strichards.org.uk/support-us/volunteering/volunteering-vacancies/volunteer-barnards-green.

St Richard’s high street shops are the charity’s face within the community and last year the 17 shops welcomed more than 300,000 customers.

In the year ended March 2022, St Richard’s shops raised almost £1m profit to help fund the charity’s care and support of patients, their families, and bereaved people.

St Richard’s Hospice is an independent charity caring for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment to their last days and supporting those important to them.

Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,100 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

It costs £10.28m to run the hospice (22/23 audited accounts), which includes patient care and all the necessary support services.

St Richard’s relies on donations and gifts in Wills for the majority of its income with the remainder funded by the NHS.
