Mobility app Bolt partners with Forest Green Rovers in bid to replicate football club’s sustainability best practice and credentials

Forest Green Rovers, described as ‘the World’s Greenest Football Club’ by FIFA, are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with mobility super-app Bolt.

Founded by Markus Villig in 2013, Bolt has more than 100 million customers in over 45 countries, accelerating the transition from owned cars to shared mobility, offering better alternatives for every use case, including ride-hailing, shared cars and scooters, and food and grocery delivery. It’s committed to building a future in which cities have less congestion, less pollution and more green spaces where people can easily move around in a safe and sustainable way.

Bolt is working towards alleviating the environmental impact of its own operations through a number of handpicked projects, such as Seedballs Kenya and, in 51 cities where it offers its ride-hailing service, has also launched a ‘Green’ category which achieved 44 million kilometres of rides in zero and low emission vehicles in 2021. Closer to home, Bolt is working on some interesting new initiatives with FGR to support and encourage sustainable fan travel, details of which will be announced in the new season.

From Bristol to Derby and Peterborough to Milton Keynes, Rovers supporters will also be able to use Bolt’s vast network of rides across the country on the club’s journey to League One – with over 20 towns and cities in the UK currently enjoying Bolt’s convenient, affordable ride-hailing offer.

Josh Ryan, Country Manager, UK Rides at Bolt said: “Bolt is thrilled to become a title partner of Forest Green Rovers. Not only is the club an inspiration on the field, it’s also an inspiration off it. They’ve done an absolutely fantastic job at showcasing what a change in approach and habit can achieve to the benefit of the environment in their industry, and we’re looking to do the same.

“Not only are we in the process of assessing how we can be more sustainably minded in our own operations, with our mission being to cut persistently high levels of private car ownership we’re also looking to encourage anyone and everyone who travels in some way to consider the same. We cannot wait to start learning how we can replicate the best practice the club has admirably achieved”.

Henry Staelens, CEO, FGR, added: “Ever since we first spoke with the guys at Bolt, it was clear they want to do the right things, for the right reasons – and have fun whilst doing it. So, we’re pleased to have them as such a big part of our maiden voyage into League One.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how their model fits into the world of fan travel – both for our supporters and other clubs, up and down the country.”
