Men’s health on the agenda in ‘Movember’ with dedicated campaign for Hakim staff

Staff from an optometry group are putting their best foot forward as they ‘Move for Movember’ in a concerted effort to raise awareness of men’s health.

Employees of Hakim Group are being challenged to walk or run a minimum of 60km throughout the month, with an overall fundraising target of £1,000.

As part of the campaign, the Darwen-based Hakim Group has partnered with Shine Coaching – an organisation that provides support and resolution for men, living in Lancashire, who are struggling to deal with stress, anger, and conflict in their daily lives.

Nick Lowe, head of transformation and engagement at Hakim Group, said: “The health of our staff is of paramount importance and to mark Men’s Health Awareness Month we wanted to do something to get people thinking and talking about their overall wellbeing.

“By getting the whole team involved we’re ensuring it’s a collaborative effort with everyone pulling in the same direction and I’m sure there will be a competitive edge to it with some staff wanting to go above and beyond.

“It’s very much a marathon not a sprint but we’ve made a great start and I look forward to seeing how far the team can go.”

On International Men’s Day, Saturday, November 19, a sponsored walk will take place at Entwistle Reservoir near Hakim’s UK headquarters to raise money for Shine.

Throughout the month, staff members can track their performance and receive regular updates on the team’s progress through a dedicated microsite. They will also be able to connect Garmin, Fitbit and Apple watches through Strava via the Movember app.

The Hakim Group represents many of the leading independent optical practices in the UK, with a nationwide reputation for innovation in the eye care sector.
