Look who’s landed in North Wales

This November marks the 60th anniversary of the world’s longest running and most successful sci-fi TV series in history, Doctor Who. To celebrate this landmark, Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts, a multi- award winning luxury glamping retreat, have built their very own life size replica of the Doctor’s famous time machine.

‘Any diamond anniversary is amazing and something to celebrate, so to ignore one for such an iconic TV series that has been such a formative part of the lives of so many children and adults alike, would be just downright rude!, quipped co-owner Mark Barrow

Dr Who was first broadcast on BBC1 Sat 23rd November 1963, with the first Doctor, played by the late William Hartnell, ably assisted by his grand-daughter Susan (Carole Ann Ford) and school teachers Barbara Wright (Jacqueline Hill) and Ian Chesterton (William Russell). Since stumbling upon the TARDIS (which is an acronym for Time and Relative Dimension in Space) in a junk yard,  three generations of TV audience has been catapulted headlong into a whirlwind of adventures in space and time that have spanned 60 years and been seen in over 90 countries worldwide.

Since that opening episode there have been 15 different incarnations of the good Doctor, featuring in over 860 episodes, with Ncuti Gatwa taking up the controls of the famous police box as the latest persona of the Time Lord in the New Year.

‘Like so many others, we both grew up with the original series, so we wanted to honour that in style’, confirmed co-owner Jonathan Gooders. ‘That is why we built our very own TARDIS and situated it in a great spot on the opposite side of our wildlife lake, so other people who love the series can come and have a photo in a stunning location with a true icon of the small screen. You can even have a selfie with your favourite Doctor too! Well, a life size photo cut out at least!’.

Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts is a multi-award winning adults-only luxury boutique glamping retreat based near Pwllheli in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the Llyn Peninsula, North Wales, comprising of five exclusive designer shepherd, poachers and gypsy huts.

Each was designed and hand-built by the husbands team Mark Barrow and Jonathan Gooders. Both have fine art backgrounds, which can be seen in the high quality finish of each of the huts.

Since opening in Nov 2021, after a 2.5 year build through the most challenging times of the Covid pandemic, the five star retreat has been awarded over a dozen accolades and are finalists in the North Wales Tourism Awards (which they won last year) and the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, the winners of which will be announced at a black-tie dinner at The Grosvenor in Park Lane, London, in November.

To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Doctor Who, Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts will be holding a series of screenings throughout November in their private onsite 4k cinema, which will only be available for staying guests.

‘Guests will be able to experience some classic episodes on the big screen, including the very first serial, ‘An Unearthly Child’, which started this whole glorious phenomenon off all those years ago’, enthused Mark.
