The Worcester Learning Zone team are sponsoring a penguin in their tenth year supporting students across Worcestershire
A Worcester-based learning organisation has thrown its support behind a penguin-themed art trail.
Worcester Learning Zone, which provides tutoring and online learning to children, young people and adults, is to sponsor a sculpture for the great Waddle of Worcester.
Set to arrive on 22 July, the trail will see eighty beautifully decorated penguins parading through the city’s streets for eight weeks. A Wild in Art event, the waddle is being brought to Worcester by St Richard’s Hospice.
Natasha Stolt, Business Director and co-owner of Worcester Learning Zone, said: “2024 marks our tenth year helping students build their confidence and achieve their potential. What better way to celebrate than by joining the city’s penguin party this summer!”
Carys Thurlby, co-owner and founder, said: “Taking a penguin under our wing in many ways reflects what we do with our students, regardless of whether they are in school and come to us in the evenings for extra confidence and to boost their knowledge, or have special educational needs and do not have a suitable school provision, all students are welcome at Worcester Learning Zone. We bring children and young people into our huddle to make learning enjoyable, with students’ thoughts, opinions, goals and choices driving the planning and delivery of tuition.”
Organisations from across Worcestershire and beyond have swooped in to sign-up and sponsor a penguin sculpture.
The final forty penguin suit designs have now been selected by sponsors and 40 more penguin chicks are winging their way to local schools ready to be designed and decorated. The babies will be displayed in Crowngate Shopping Centre and other shop windows across the city.
At the end of the trail, each large penguin will be auctioned to support the ongoing care provided by St Richard’s Hospice.
