Kettering-based firm takes school leavers into apprenticeship programme

NAHL Group Apprentices

Two teenage students are taking the formative steps in their legal careers after a Kettering-based firm made them the first school leavers to be inducted into its apprenticeship programme.

NAHL Group, whose headquarters are located in Kettering Venture Park, specialises in assisting people with making no win no fee claims when they have suffered a personal injury from an accident that wasn’t their fault.

And now, NAHL Group is extending its help to those fresh out of education, with Faye Wright and Becky Harvey both joining National Accident Law as paralegal apprentices

“People associate the law with courtrooms and people in robes and wigs, but law careers are not always like that,” said Becky, 18. “We’re working with different teams who handle the various stages of a claim – preparation, settlement and litigation – and I’m enjoying developing my knowledge in an office environment.”

NAHL Group actually launched its Learning Academy programme in March 2019, although the initiative at that time was only open to existing team members within the National Accident Law and National Accident Helpline personal injury division.

Those employees – and now new starters Becky and Faye – are being given the chance to develop their skills and explore a wider range of fields within the industry, all with the aim of gaining greater experience and progressing their careers.

And NAHL Group’s Learning and Development Manager, Samantha Warner, believes the scheme will only go from strength to strength as the company continues to expand its programme.

“We launched our first apprenticeships last year to offer new opportunities to existing members of our team, and that has been really successful,” she said.

“Our apprentices continue to learn new skills and develop confidence which they are able to call upon in their jobs every day, and it’s been great to watch them learn and grow in their roles.

“Extending the apprenticeship programme to people joining our team was the logical next step, and we’re looking forward to continuing to nurture the careers of our apprentices over the year ahead.”

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Faye is thrilled at the prospect of earning a golden opportunity to soak up such a vast amount of knowledge and experience first-hand.

“The idea of learning a job while doing it every day appealed to me, so when I saw this role, I thought it was ideal,” she said. “We will be learning about a broad range of law, both civil and criminal, and a lot of the learnings can be applied in our day jobs.

“I wanted to start a law career because I found it really interesting and because law is in all parts of everyday life, without you necessarily realising it.”
