Keeping drivers safe on the road in Northern Ireland

A Staffordshire road safety consultancy has launched a partnership with Road Safe NI (Northern Ireland) to help keep people who drive for work purposes safer on the roads.

Adrian Hide Consultancy, who specialise in delivering a range of driver safety courses to businesses as well as driver risk management services is now the charity’s official driver training partner.

The charity which used to be called Road Safety Council of Northern Ireland – promotes safety on the roads, was set up in the early 1960s and is run solely by volunteers.

The partnership approach will see Adrian’s online-based courses which include Eco-Safe Driving, Safer Van Driving and Electric Vehicle Familiarisation course, made available to businesses, organisations and companies in Northern Ireland through the charity. Online training is a cost-effective way for drivers to keep up to date with safe and fuel-efficient driving techniques, participants can dip in and out of the course around their spare time and receive a certificate as recognition of their achievement.

Adrian Hide said: “I am absolutely delighted to be partnering with Road Safe NI. Over the years they have done a huge amount to champion road safety in Northern Ireland and I am proud that my online courses will help give businesses there – an opportunity to upskill staff and educate them on the steps they can take to keep themselves and others safe on the roads. One in four collisions involve someone driving for work purposes at the time of an accident so employers really do need to think about what steps they have in place to help keep drivers safe including road safety training.  For every course sold to businesses a percentage will go to the charity, so I am delighted it will be helping them too.”

The Chair of Road Safe NI – Davy Jackson said: “Often businesses don’t understand that even if you have one member of staff who drives for work purposes, whether that’s driving their own car, or a company vehicle, that as an employer you have a duty of care to do all you can to keep that person safe on the roads. Adrian’s a pleasure to work with – he’s an expert in his field and his courses are fantastic. We saw this as an ideal opportunity to bring him in as our training partner. The feedback we’ve had from businesses so far has been great and we know that the more people hear about them, the more people will benefit from Adrian’s training.

The majority of drivers haven’t done any more training since passing their tests, so Adrian’s courses are a great refresher for them as well as offering advice and information that drivers often don’t think about. It also addresses an employer’s duty of care obligations under health and safety law,” he added.
