Dogs at weddings is not a new trend, but is certainly one that continues to gain in popularity within the wedding planning industry.

New analysis by leading wedding planning website Hitched.co.uk today reveals that globally, online searches* for ‘dogs at weddings’ have increased by a whopping 806% in the last five years. Here in the UK, additional research shows that dog owners are also very passionate about their dogs being invited to their wedding days.

Not only do British nearlyweds want their canine companions to be in attendance on their big days, but a whopping 94% of those surveyed by Guide Dogs UK** said they wanted their fur babies to have a starring role in the celebrations.

How couples planned to include their pets in their wedding day ranged from being part of the first dance (42%) and walking the bride down the aisle (39%), to being the Dog of Honour or Best Mutt (37%) or taking responsibility as the ring bearer (30%).

As well as being involved in the wedding party itself, more than half of dog-owning nearlyweds said they would go so far as to make changes to their big days so that their pet could be involved, with a third saying the wedding would not feel complete without their dog’s attendance.

Coupled with the rising interest in ‘wedding videography’ across the UK, which has seen an increase online searches* of 2,300% in the last five years, and a growing interest in Brits searching* for ‘dog go pro’ products (up 1,700% since 2018), it’s evident that there is a gap in the market for something very specific…

Zoe Burke, leading wedding expert and editor of Hitched.co.uk says: “It’s obvious that dog owners consider their dogs to be more than just pets – they’re well and truly to considered be part of the family, so it’s no surprise that dogs are being actively involved in weddings now more than ever.

“We often see dogs walking down the aisle, or being part of the couple’s photoshoot, but we had never seen a supplier who offered video content captured from the unique pawspective as coming from the couple’s dog.

“Digby is great at what he does! He’s a total pawfessional, and his content is stunning. It’s such a fun thing to be able to see your wedding day from the eyes of man’s best friend, and we’re so excited to launch Digby as the UK’s first ever vi-dog-rapher!

“Whoever books him first is going to be so lucky!”

Digby the Dog adds: “Ruff awroo ruh. GrrrrrrUH reeooooow ruffff….”
