The Business Lincolnshire Growth Hub, East Lindsey District Council and Lincoln College have joined together to create an accredited training course for the customer service industry. Titled ‘The Principles of Retail,’ this fully-funded pilot programme aims to give employees the skills and knowledge to excel in the retail sector.
The three-day programme is suitable for employees who are new to the industry, as well as those with more experience who would like to upskill or receive formal training to further their career. As well as gaining in-depth knowledge on the key principles of retail and customer service, those who complete the course will receive the equivalent of a Level 2 qualification accredited by Lincoln College.
The course will be held at the Fairfield Enterprise Centre in Louth, where delegates will study modules including Understanding Retail Operations, Customer Service and Employability. They will gain a broad understanding of the retail sector, including how to provide exceptional customer service and build customer relationships that last.
This blended training course is the first-of-its-kind and combines taught sessions with an online portfolio where students can showcase what they’ve learned to assessors. Along with developing traditional customer service techniques, students will harness skills invaluable to the 21st century retail sector, such as social media management, the importance of networking and how to use CRM systems.

“This course provides employees with everything they need to know about working in modern retail, but especially how to deliver quality customer service that will bring customers back time and time again.
“We believe the programme will not only help Lincolnshire-based businesses to succeed but will also boost the local economy by encouraging customers to spend more with local retailers as well.”
