Independent Liverpool opticians celebrates 40 years of exceptional eye care

An optician is celebrating being at the helm of Liverpool’s independent traders for four decades.

Stephen Wilcox founder of the practice of the same name, invited members of the Childwall community to join in celebrations for its 40th anniversary in October.

Having evolved into an iconic symbol of eye care excellence, the family-owned building in Dunbabin Road remains a beacon of tradition and expertise, with some original features meticulously crafted by the Wilcox family themselves.

Stephen Wilcox, a seasoned optometrist, and the practice’s director, is known for his expertise in visual stress and dyslexia, making his services invaluable to the community.

He commented: “Over the years, the practice has consistently adapted and expanded its services to meet the evolving needs of the community.

“More recently, we have gained recognition for our specialised services, including speciality contact lenses, myopia management, and orthokeratology.

“Our commitment to delivering the highest quality of eye care services has remained unwavering, earning the practice the trust of generations of local families.

“In commemoration of this significant milestone, we extended a warm invitation to the local community to come and join our celebrations.”

During this event, attendees were given an exclusive opportunity to preview the latest Silhouette and branded eyewear collections and benefit from generous offers on enhanced eye examinations and prescription eyewear.

The recent appointment of co-directors Neil Hilton, an experienced optometrist, and Joanna Halliday, regional manager has brought an exciting new chapter to the practice’s history.

Both co-directors bring a wealth of experience, having previously owned multiple independent opticians across Merseyside and Cheshire. Their addition signals a promising future for the practice, blending the rich heritage Stephen Wilcox Opticians is known for with innovative technologies and approaches.

Joanna Halliday, co-director and regional manager, expressed her enthusiasm for the future, stating, “The future of this practice is bright. Joining hands with Stephen and understanding the rich heritage he brings, we’re excited to integrate new technologies and approaches, ensuring our community continues to receive top-tier care.”

Stephen Wilcox, reflecting on the practice’s remarkable 40-year journey, shared, “When I first opened the doors of this practice, it was a testament to our family’s commitment to Liverpool.

“Over the years, we’ve not only watched generations of families trust us with their vision but have evolved with the changing landscape of optometry. It’s a legacy that we’re incredibly proud of.”
