Food to go brand launches Christmas sandwiches created by charity chefs

Honest Crust Ltd Christmas Ltd Editions Team

Food-to-go brand Honest Crust have launched two Christmas limited edition sandwiches that have been created by FareShare charity chefs, as part of their ongoing partnership which has seen them donate 200,000 meals to vulnerable people across the UK this year.

The festive sandwiches hit the shelves at Londis, Budgens, university student unions and The Royal Voluntary Service and sales will continue help support and raise awareness for the UK food charity.

Community chefs Rosie Radford from Cheltenham Open Door and Jessie and Jill, charity owners of  Pulp Friction smoothie bar project, work for their charities all year round using ingredients delivered by FareShare, an organisation which redistributes surplus food to charities supporting vulnerable people such as such as homeless hostels, school breakfast clubs, domestic violence refuges, older people’s lunch clubs, food banks and hospices.

Honest Crust, which is committed to tackling food waste and food poverty, worked with Rosie, Jessie and Jill to come up with two Christmas inspired sandwich flavours: Festive Brunch, made with smoked salmon, spinach, egg mayo and dill, and Turkey Dinner with cranberry sauce and stuffing.

“Honest Crust is thrilled to have been able to work so closely with the people who work tirelessly to turn unloved, surplus food into delicious meals for thousands of people,” said Alastair Johns, Head of Brand & Category for Honest Crust. “Honest Crust is a brand with its values firmly on its sleeve and FareShare is one of our top priorities in everything we do. They do so much vital work and we wanted to highlight specific charities they help, which is why we asked Rosie, Jessie and Jill if they’d like to come along to our bakery and devise these festive sandwiches for us.”

“We hope that customers with similar beliefs and values will enjoy the products and get behind the cause – to be inspired to raise money and volunteer if they can,” Johns added.

Honest Crust FareShare Christmas Sandwiches

In addition to the sandwich sales, Honest Crust has launched a series of delicious recipes on their website, with ideas donated by charity chefs across the UK, to help everyone tackle food waste at home. Recipes include ‘Leftover Pudding Pud’ – to use up Panettone and other Christmas desserts – plus warming soups and quick, healthy pizzas.

Honest Crust was launched in September 2018 for food manufacturer Samworth Brothers, with the strapline ‘Eat Good, Do Good’. The brand has pledged in its first year to donate £50,000 to FareShare, who are using the funds to help supply 200,000 meals to vulnerable people.

Alyson Walsh, Commercial Director at FareShare, said: “These recipes developed by Jill, Jessie and Rosie highlight the fantastic work FareShare community chefs are doing every day in turning surplus food into delicious nutritious meals, that they offer alongside life changing support services.

It’s great to see them recognised in this way by Honest Crust, who over the course of the year have enabled FareShare to provide 200, 000 meals to people in need.”
