Flybe welcomes Government’s Aviation 2050 Strategy Green Paper

On Monday, Flybe welcomed the Government’s Aviation 2050 Strategy Green Paper, saying it is critical to agree a long-term strategy which recognises the vital role that airlines play in providing affordable, frequent and sustainable air services to local economies around the country.

Flybe is the UK’s largest regional carrier offering routes from 30 UK airports with 11 regional bases providing local employment for over 2,300 staff,  and carrying over 9.5 million passengers a year.  It operates a large fleet of smaller, environmentally efficient aircraft and will look to increase domestic connectivity to and from an expanded Heathrow, provided there are affordable slots made available for regional routes served by smaller aircraft.

Flybe’s Exeter-based training Academy also offers critical skills’ development in an industry which is in dire need of a plan to address the ‘next generation’ shortage of pilots and engineers. Flybe’s recently launched ‘FlyShe’ programme is set to play a key role in addressing the current gender imbalance across the aviation and aerospace industry.

Flybe looks forward to contributing fully to the consultation.
