Fitness community raises awareness for men’s mental health

Gymshark, Patron of Future Faces organised a ’24 Hour Farmers Walk’ to support men’s mental health and suicide awareness.

In a powerful display of solidarity and commitment to mental health, Gymshark, recently organised a remarkable ’24 Hour Farmers Walk’ event at Blythe Valley Business Park. The event aimed to raise awareness and funds for men’s mental health and suicide prevention.

The event took place from 5pm on Tuesday, 19 December to 5pm on Wednesday, 20, with participants carrying a 100lb weight throughout the entire duration of the walk.

Ben Francis, CEO at Gymshark, said: “I’m always amazed by the challenges that the team at Gymshark undertake each year to support Movember. Each year they get bigger and bigger and the fact that so many of the team have walked through the night and beyond, carrying farmers weights at all times blows my mind. It’s such a powerful message that “weight belongs in your hands and not in your head” and hopefully it will go some way to helping those that are struggling. Movember is such an important cause and helps so many men, so if anyone is able to help, you can donate here.”

Ad Davies, leader in Culture & Performance at Gymshark, expressing a deep passion for the cause shared: “We carried 100lbs of weight for 24 hours to raise awareness for men’s mental health and suicide awareness. Because weight belongs in your hands, not in your head.”

The choice of Blythe Valley Business Park as the venue added a unique touch to the event, underscoring the importance of bringing attention to mental health in professional and corporate settings. The 24-hour duration of the Farmers Walk served as a metaphorical representation of the constant struggle individuals face with mental health challenges, aiming to foster empathy and understanding among participants and spectators alike, carrying 100lbs representing that everyone 100 minutes, 100 men succumb to the weight of mental health that they cannot bare, so every 100 minutes, 100 men are lost to suicide.

Gymshark’s commitment to mental health is not limited to this event, as the company continues to explore innovative ways to contribute to the ongoing conversation surrounding mental health awareness. The ’24 Hour Farmers Walk’ has not only raised funds but also sparked crucial conversations about breaking the stigma associated with mental health issues, especially among men.
