Durham Cricket Club have partnered with North-East based Event Cup Solutions to provide the most sustainable reusable cup solution at the Seat Unique Riverside this season.
Event Cup Solutions, the company behind the ONE Planet ONE Chance® Reusable Cup System will provide the ground with its own unique solution for the 2023 season, enabling the club to reduce their carbon footprint further.
The ONE Planet ONE Chance® Reusable Cup System encourages spectators to return their cups to specialist bins located throughout the stadium, ready for Event Cup Solutions’ on-site team to collect and prepare for return to Middlesbrough for washing at the company’s state-of- the-art wash facility, where they are put through a specialist wash and drying process preparing them for the next match.
The solution is truly a North-East success story: The cups, which are manufactured locally in Teesside, are delivered directly from Event Cup Solutions’ Head office in Middlesbrough to the Seat Unique Riverside, providing the lowest carbon solution for Durham Cricket.
Rob Warren, Site Director at Durham County Cricket Club, said: “We feel that with the climate crisis high on everyones agenda, we have a responsibility to play our part in trying to offset some of the damage being inflicting on the planet. We believe the ONE Planet ONE Chance® Reusable Cup System is a terrific local success story and solution for our club to make a significant difference over the course of the season. We also have the greatest confidence that our members and visitors will happily do their bit to make the system work.
“More than 100,000 people will pass through the venue this season, which is a real opportunity for us to maximise Event Cup Solutions’ initiative as well as raise awareness of its benefits to our guests. We’re confident we will note a massive difference over previous years at the end of the summer, and we look forward to the response from visitors.”
The club is embarking on a communications mission to make all visitors to the ground aware of its commitment to the ONE Planet ONE Chance® Reusable Cup System, and to urge them to play their part in the scheme. The club has invested in signage throughout the ground to remind visitors to return their used cups to the cup return bins ready for collection and will further promote the initiative on its electronic scoreboards during match breaks.

“We estimate the club will use in excess of 300,000 cups over the course of the 2023 season, all of them made and washed in Teesside. Our aim is to make it easy for visitors to return the cups by providing collection bins which will be positioned in easily accessible and visible areas of the Seat Unique Riverside.
“We’ve been really impressed with the communications process the club have put in place to educate and encourage visitors to play their part in ensuring the scheme is a success, and we hope this is the beginning of a strong partnership with the club. We’ve enjoyed excellent results within the football, rugby, horse racing and motor sports sectors, and it’s fantastic to have a Durham CC leading the way within the cricket world,” he said.
