Double delight for apprentices in skills contest

L-R: Demi Whitehead, Brandon Jackson and Felicity Monks

There’s been a double success for two apprentice electricians at award-winning housebuilder William Davis Homes.

Demi Whitehead and Felicity Monks secured the top two places in a regional heat of a competition to find the UK’s best young electrician.

Demi and Felicity, both aged 21, came first and second respectively in the qualifying heat of UK SkillELECTRIC.

The heat, held at Nottingham College, featured nine competitors, including two from the Armed Forces. They were each given the same technical challenges, which they had to complete in separate cubicles.

William Davis Homes Apprentice Manager Gary Long said he was extremely proud of the company’s entrants.

“Demi and Felicity did tremendously well to finish in the top two,” said Gary. “Another of our talented apprentices, Brandon Jackson, also performed brilliantly.”

Demi will now compete in the UK SkillELECTRIC Final in November after being among the highest scorers in all the regional heats. She originally joined William Davis straight from school and is a former Apprentice of the Year at the company.

For more than fifty years, William Davis Homes’ award-winning apprenticeship scheme has helped hundreds of young people to launch their careers in housebuilding.

Gary Long added: “We’re very proud of the training that we provide for our electrical installation apprentices. This training equips them with the skills needed to install, maintain and repair electrical installations, whilst simultaneously spotlighting modern green technologies.”

The HR Manager at William Davis Homes, Rebecca Jones, said: “The success of our apprentices in the SkillELECTRIC competition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in our apprenticeship programme. It provides us with great talent and helps our business to develop and retain skills which are in short supply.”

The UK Final of SkillELECTRIC will be held at Oldham College across the week of 13th November.
