Davies holding congress to mark 25th anniversary

Davies Veterinary Specialists, in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, is hosting its BIG25 Congress at The Forest Centre, Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, on Saturday 16 September

One of the UK’s leading animal hospitals is set to welcome up to 200 veterinary professionals to an industry congress as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.

Linnaeus-owned Davies Veterinary Specialists, in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, is hosting its BIG25 Congress at The Forest Centre, Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, on Saturday 16 September.

The congress is one of a number of pledges for the year made by the team at Davies to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the pioneering referral centre’s launch.

The event will focus on Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for specialists, primary care vets, registered vet nurses and associated industry workers.

Davies hospital director Ben Orton said: “This is a high level CPD and networking get together aimed at our colleagues in the veterinary industry with a raft of advice and insight from some of the leading specialists here at Davies.

“Our head of internal medicine Anna Threlfall will be speaking about endocrine emergencies, with a focus on DKA and the Addisonian crisis.

“Bloody Spleens is the title for a talk by our head of oncology Mark Goodfellow and head of soft tissue surgery Smita Das, while clinical director Ronan Doyle will address ‘The principles and pitfalls of intestinal surgery’.

“Neurology specialist Nick Grapes will be discussing his ‘Approach to Spinal Emergencies’ while head of anaesthesia Frances Downing will give her expert view on ‘Anaesthesia and the emergency patient’ so there will be  plenty of stimulating and challenging content.”

There will also be sessions run for the benefit of nurses and those with an interest in sustainability. Jemma Gaughran will lead ‘Nursing the DKA patient’, while Zoe Halfacree and Ellie West will speak on ‘sustainability in the veterinary care setting’, providing expert insights.

The day-long event begins at 8.30pm with arrival drinks and pastries before the morning session, which runs from 9am to midday.

After an hour’s break for lunch and networking, the afternoon session will run from 1pm to 4.30pm.

That will be swiftly followed by a complimentary hog roast and further networking opportunities to round off a valuable and comprehensive CPD experience.
