COSMO Derby scoops national award for best buffet restaurant

A popular city centre restaurant has won a national award for the second consecutive year after being nominated by members of the public.

COSMO Derby has scooped the title UK’s Best Buffet Restaurant at the annual Food Awards England, which was presented at a prestigious ceremony in Birmingham. It also picked up an award for the Best World Cuisine in the Midlands.

The Eighth Food Awards England, which is run by Oceanic Creative, aims to highlight the servers, specialists and suppliers in the hospitality industry which go above and beyond in their individual fields.

Cosmo spokesman Kan Koo said: “It has, and continues to be, a tough time for the hospitality industry with some major chains disappearing, soaring energy prices, staffing shortages and a cost of living crisis.

“So, to win these awards against this backdrop is absolutely brilliant news and proves we have bounced back from the pandemic with more energy and commitment for good quality food, good value and great selection of dishes.

“We would like to thank the voting public and assure them that Cosmo will continue to offer the very best value in the casual dining sector despite the inflationary pressures.

“I’d also like to express gratitude to all the hardworking Cosmo staff. The entire Derby team works hard to ensure the restaurant consistently serves up incredible food and delivers outstanding service, so this award win is testament to their hard work and dedication.”

Cosmo Derby seats 330 diners and can serve as many as 1,300 people on a busy Saturday with dishes from 10 different countries including China, Japan, India and Brazil, as well as a full British carvery.

The Food and Drink Awards seek to recognise the hard work and efforts of those committed to providing communities with the freshest of products and tastes.

They showcase the best restaurants, takeaways, pubs, hotel restaurants, cafes and bistros, as well as those who allow diners to explore new flavours and cuisines from different cultures.
A spokesperson for the awards said: “In a country with so many food establishments and businesses, it can be hard to stand out. However, the 2023 finalists have all been distinguished as the real masters in their field due to their hard work and dedication to customer satisfaction.

“Moreover, their success isn’t just about their dedication to leaving every customer satisfied. It’s also a story that reflects the resilience and creativity of countless chefs, producers, employees and managers who are always ensuring that locals and visitors eat well.”
