Chorley care home gives hope to hedgehogs

Staff at Marley Court Care Home are saddling up to raise money for Chorley Hedgehog Rescue on Tuesday 29th March.

The organisation is committed to the preservation and rehabilitation of hedgehogs. To help raise awareness, Millennium Care’s Chorley-based home is seeking sponsors after residents chose to support the local charity.

A recent survey, The State of British Hedgehogs report, showed that the number hedgehogs in rural Britain is facing a steep decline. However, populations in towns and cities are starting to recover. It is charities like Chorley Hedgehog Rescue that are aiding that recovery.

The virtual bike ride will take place in the care home with the team aiming to cycle 124 miles with staff, residents, friends and family all taking part.

Marley Court’s Activity Coordinator, Elaine, said: “Every year we have a charity and always want to support local causes. They do a fantastic job for the wildlife around us.

“It is going to be such a great sense of achievement for residents to get involved, and this allows families to sponsor their loved ones as well for a fantastic cause.

“Because of our location, we enjoy seeing lots of wildlife from the home and it is nice for us to give something back to a deserving charity.”

Simone Sweeney, Volunteer and Fundraiser at Chorley Hedgehog Rescue, said: “We rely solely on the support from local people and local organisations. We’re thrilled that Marley Court Care Home’s residents have chosen us to support on their fundraiser and we wish them the best of luck. Everyone here is hugely grateful and appreciative of their fundraising plans!”
