Celebrating 35 years of beautiful bedlinen

Over 3 decades ago, Cologne & Cotton defined a new way to shop and a more beautiful way to sleep.

When Cologne & Cotton stacked the open shelves of their first shop in 1989 with piles of fresh bed linen, it quickly became a huge hit, changing the way people in the UK thought about what they sleep in. Bobbly old poly-cotton duvet covers were out, as sisters Vicky Shepherd and Jenny Deeming introduced thousands of households to the joys of sleeping in pure cotton. Smooth, cool and beautiful, their fresh designs were a total antidote to what was otherwise available in the late eighties. Their woven candy stripes, smart checks, hand-embroidery and pure white percale began to fill linen- cupboards up and down the country marking a sea-change in the way many British people thought about their homes, and paving the way for the interiors boom that followed.

Today, Cologne & Cotton is just as committed to discovering beautiful and affordable products. Described by House & Garden as ‘The Best Place for Quality Bed Linen’* Many of the original designs are still bestsellers, a testament to the timelessness of their classic patterns and excellent quality.

To celebrate this anniversary, Vicky and Jenny have re-launched one of their archive bed linen designs, ‘Martinique’. This collection is inspired by a small-scale Provencale pattern of flowers and leaves re-imagined in rich jewel-tones to bring an edge of elegant drama to the bedroom.

“We’re delighted to revive Martinique due to popular demand,” says Jenny, co-founder of Cologne & Cotton. “It’s a gorgeous and vibrant print. One of the wonderful things about bedlinen is its ability to quickly change the look of your bedroom. Sometimes it’s nice to introduce a different feeling and Martinique is perfect for that.
