Canterbury awarded 10th Purple Flag Award in Liverpool

Canterbury has been awarded its 10th consecutive Purple Flag award, recognising the city’s commitment to providing a safe and vibrant nightlife experience for residents and visitors alike. The award was announced at a ceremony at the British Music Experience in Liverpool on Thursday, March 23rd, 2023.

The Purple Flag is a national accreditation scheme for town and city centres that demonstrate excellence in managing their night-time economy. The scheme assesses the quality of the night-time environment across a range of criteria, including safety, cleanliness, accessibility, and the range and quality of venues on offer.

Canterbury’s continued success in achieving the Purple Flag award reflects the city’s dedication to providing a diverse range of nightlife experiences, from bustling bars and restaurants to cultural attractions and events. It also highlights the hard work and collaboration between local authorities, businesses, and community groups in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Matthew Jones-Roberts from Distinctive Bars who attended the awards said “We are delighted that Canterbury has received its 10th Purple Flag award, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in promoting and managing our city’s night-time economy. Canterbury is a vibrant and welcoming city, and we are proud to be recognised once again for our commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all.”
