A government report on the UK hydrogen sector has been welcomed by British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA).
The report, by UK Hydrogen Champion Jane Toogood, sets out a series of recommendations to government and industry that aim to accelerate the development of the nation’s hydrogen economy.
BCGA, as the trade body for the compressed gases sector, welcomed calls for clarity on the future vision for hydrogen and for industry and trade associations to work together to assess the opportunities in hydrogen.
President of the BCGA, David Hurren, said: “This report raises some valuable points on the need for clarity on the policy vision for hydrogen, the funding that may be available and the route forward over the next decade to help kickstart investment.
“The report also urges industry and trade associations to collaborate on evaluating the scale of the economic opportunity of hydrogen, to ensure this is not underestimated.
“We look forward to supporting this, to ensure the Government benefits from additional data that provides the full picture of how many jobs the hydrogen economy could create.”
The BCGA is the UK membership body for the compressed gases sector. Its members employ 19,000 people directly and account for an annual turnover of £2.7 billion.
