Access granted: Probate services provider solves client’s financial trauma after turbulent year

Mike Davis

After Paul’s mother died, his father – who was in his 90s at the time – needed to get Grant of Confirmation. It was agreed between Paul and his brother that Paul would step in to help fill in the forms required for the process.

Admittedly, he didn’t think it would be an onerous task initially because it was just two forms, however, upon reflection, he believes it would have been “nigh on impossible” to fill out the forms correctly on his own, given the information he now knows is required.

The client

Before Paul met Mike Davis, founder of My Probate Partner, he completed and sent the required forms to the Sheriff Court six times unsuccessfully – spending several hours filling in the forms each time – and waiting between 4 to 8 weeks before the Sheriff Court returned them. It was at this point that Paul realised he needed someone’s help and subsequently chose to appoint the services of My Probate Partner.

Before working with My Probate Partner…

Every time Paul sent off the paperwork to the Sheriff Court, he would receive a letter in response, stating that as the gross total value of the estate was over £36,000, they were “not permitted to assist with the correction or completion of the paperwork.”

Each time the forms were returned to Paul, there was no clear indication about which parts of the form had been filled in ‘incorrectly’ or what he had to do to rectify it. Because of this, he found himself questioning what to change and having to continuously resubmit it, hoping it wouldn’t be returned another time.

The Sheriff Court also went on to advise Paul that he “may wish to consider taking legal advice in regard to the application”, however, Paul was determined not to spend several thousand pounds of his father’s money on hiring a solicitor if possible.

Testimonial

“I cannot recommend My Probate Partner highly enough. The assistance that I had whilst filling in the forms was great all round – Mike provided me with a whole step-by-step process to every single question, so it really was infallible, and as a result, I now have Confirmation for my parents’ estate.

The service was first-class – Mike was always there to actively answer any questions I had, no matter how minor, and constantly checked in on progress throughout the entire process. Because of this, it was a personable experience, and I didn’t feel like just another ‘paying customer’.

Overall, I spent more than a year filling in these forms, however, if I’d have known at the start that the process was essentially geared up to prevent an individual from filling in the forms correctly, I would have sought Mike’s advice sooner.

Unless you’re prepared to spend a lot of time filling in the forms – and accept that they will be returned to you on many occasions – I strongly advise that you talk to My Probate Partner as soon as you can.”
