£17,000 raised in Hospice Lottery Super Draw

Leading end of life charity, Treetops Hospice, has raised over £17,000 from its annual Lottery Super Draw, with proceeds going towards supporting local patients and their families.

The top Super Draw prize money was doubled to £2000 and won by long-standing player, Ann, from Heanor. Her win came as a ‘wonderful surprise’, and she plans to donate a portion of her winnings back to the hospice.

Treetops Hospice at Home nurses were ‘angels in disguise’ for Elizabeth Chapman and her family. Elizabeth’s dad, Barry Plant, from Alvaston, was diagnosed with brain cancer during the COVID pandemic.

“Dad was a strong, fit man who was independent, with a strong work ethic,” explained Elizabeth, from Spondon. “He was fitting boilers one minute, and unable to walk the next. It was such a difficult time for all of us.

“As a family, we decided for him to spend his final days with us at home. Treetops were supportive from the very moment we made our decision, offering advice and help that made dad’s final days comfortable.

“The one thing that sticks with me the most, is during my dad’s final four days. As a family we were scared, unsure and worried. Then, in walked an ‘angel’ who took us by the hand and reassured us.

“Every night, the Hospice at Home nurse would come and sit with dad and explain to us what was happening during his final moments. She comforted us, advised us, and became our friend.

“It was the most difficult time I have ever experienced in my life and without Treetops help it would have been unbearable. They are an amazing charity.”

Rebecca Lee-Jones, Treetops Lottery Manager, said: “Our huge thanks go to everyone who took part in this year’s Super Draw and helped us raise over £17,000 for the hospice. Thanks to you we can continue to care for even more patients, like Barry, and families in need.

“All proceeds from every Treetops Lottery ticket sold helps fund our vital services and makes a real difference to local people living with a life-limiting illness.”

The Treetops Hospice Lottery, which celebrated its 25th birthday in 2021, has raised almost £8m since it began.

Anyone aged 18+ can support the hospice by playing the Treetops Lottery. The weekly prize draw – which costs just £1 to enter – gives players the chance to win prizes up to £10,000. Join online at www.treetops.org.uk/lottery.
