KEMP Hospice have just completed their second ever Christmas Tree Recycling campaign and the event was bigger and better in every way than last year’s inaugural event. Over the 9th – 12th January KEMP staff and volunteers collected 355 real Christmas Trees for recycling – 30% more than 2018. In addition, the number of addresses trees were collected from went up 36% to 335. Because of the additional demand, KEMP were able to add an extra day to their collection schedule.
19 Volunteers were involved – some from local companies donating time and vans and others were local individuals giving up their weekend to help. Although the final figures have yet to be confirmed, KEMP were able to raise around £3,500 – approximately 34% up from last year. More companies got involved this year and the event was very generously sponsored by Attwood Funerals. Rosies Garden Maintenance supported the event by chipping all 355 trees free of charge. Tree chipping is great for the local environment at a time when climate change issues are so high on the agenda.
Head of Fundraising, Cathy Sloan, said, “We’re beyond grateful to everyone who has participated in this year’s event. It was great to work with so many local companies who helped with the collection and with every individual who gave up their valuable time to help. We’re also really grateful to everyone who had a tree collected and donated so generously to KEMP Hospice. Every penny raised is spent right here in the Wyre Forest providing support for patients, families and carers who are experiencing life-limiting illness and or going through bereavement. We’re already looking forward to the next Treecycling event and planning it to be even bigger than this year.”
