Yorkshire based ice company wins Frozen Food Manufacturer 2020

The Ice Co, the UK’s No1 Ice Brand, has been awarded Frozen Food Manufacturer of the Year for the second year in a row.

This Yorkshire based company is Europe’s leading manufacturer of ice and is known for introducing innovations and setting impeccably high standards across the industry. The team received their award at the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards – a glamorous evening held in London and regarded by many as the food industry’s equivalent of the Oscars.

This year’s event took place at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square, a 5-star hotel that is situated in Mayfair and set the scene well for the smart night ahead. The ceremony itself had a Rock ‘n’ Roll theme and was hosted by Ana Matronic, the vocalist for Scissor Sisters.

The lively evening saw a range of awards presented to top brands and figures within the food manufacture industry. 22 categories were awarded in all, including Bakery Manufacturing Company of the Year, Free-From Manufacturing Company of the Year, Apprentice of the Year and Business Leader of the Year.

The Ice Co. was honoured to receive its award in the frozen food category for the second year in a row, having also won the award for Frozen Food Manufacturer 2019.

A recent achievement that contributed to the company winning this award again is the substantial increase in sales of its Super Cubes – extra-large ice cubes that melt slowly and do not dilute the flavour of your desired drink. This increase has been achieved through engaging marketing campaigns with gin brands, educating customers about the benefits of pairing the product with gin and other spirits.

The introduction of a dedicated sustainability team at The Ice Co. also impressed the panel at the Food Manufacture Excellence Awards. So too did the ongoing customer based projects resulting in improvements in the supply chain.

Managing Director of The Ice Co, Polly Metcalfe, said “It was a fantastic event and winning this prestigious award was the icing on the cake.” She added that she was incredibly proud of the hard working and dedicated team and was thrilled to win the award for the second year in a row.

Team morale at The Ice Co is at an all-time high and the company is looking to keep on improving. Looking to the future, the brand is seeking to maintain its traditions and heritage – this family-owned Yorkshire business was established in 1860 by a fish and ice merchant in Hull. At the same time, it will continue to innovate across its wide range of products that includes Premium Ice, Crushed ice, flake ice and even ice blocks.
