Meet the 14-year-old entrepreneur turning lockdown boredom into a beauty brand

  • First-time entrepreneur Jasmine Bull, 14, has transformed lockdown uncertainty into creativity by launching her own eponymous beauty brand
  • Released with the help of Beauty Stable, the Jasmine range of creams and scrubs uses glass packaging and recycled ingredients, combining environmentally-friendly products with affordability
  • The eldest of three girls with a single mum, Jasmine’s motivation as an unlikely young entrepreneur is to make more young women feel better about themselves

For many teenagers, the lockdown has been said to have created a ‘lost generation’ at risk of mental health problems, unemployment and loneliness. Jasmine Bull, 14, however, has been using her new-found spare time to launch an environmentally-friendly beauty brand.

Born and raised in Romney Marsh, Kent, Jasmine is the first person to admit that her route to entrepreneurship has been unexpected. “A few months ago, I was going to school and worrying about which GCSE options to take… the usual things!”

“When school shut, I started helping out my mum, Emma, in the Beauty Stable factory in the evenings and it inspired me to think about what I could make.” Now, throughout lockdown, Jasmine has been learning about packaging, production and conducting extensive testing within her local community.

The result is the Jasmine range, a selection of creams and scrubs that absorb beautifully into the skin and are purposefully designed to leave your skin feeling fresh. “In three words, I’d describe them as affordable, recyclable and lightweight.”

Like many teenagers, Jasmine is environmentally-conscious. Everything from the glass packaging to the individual ingredients has been carefully considered. “It’s been a real community effort. I even went into Coach House Coffee, a local coffee shop in New Romney, and spoke to them about their coffee grounds. We’re now using them in our products, helping to reduce waste.” While environmentally-friendly products often receive criticism for their high price points, the Jasmine range is intentionally affordable.

Particularly heartwarming is Jasmine’s mission to break barriers in the beauty industry, notorious for its elitism. The eldest of three girls, Jasmine is from an ordinary family who, through community spirit and determination, are achieving unprecedented things. It’s a new kind of beauty industry story — and one that deserves to be celebrated.

“When designing the products, we made sure we kept them accessible for every family out there. I want everyone who uses them to feel good afterwards,” said Jasmine when asked about the inspiration behind the range. Although targeted at Generation Z through to millennials, Jasmine’s personal motivation is to help improve the self-esteem of girls like her. “Having struggled with acne, I particularly want young teenagers to feel better about themselves.”

Marva Williams, Beauty Stable Co-Founder, says: “We are so proud that Beauty Stable is a business with an ethos of nurturing young visionaries like Jasmine. Yes, she is fortunate enough to have a mother who demonstrates the power of a working mother, but she took the initiative to work and create her own brands.” Marva continues, “our desire to create products which are paraben-free and environmentally friendly is further expanded by what Jasmine has created for the millennial and Gen Z consumer of today.”
